Soprano Sheila Christie has appeared with Vancouver Opera, Burnaby Lyric Opera, Usti nad Labem City Opera, the UBC Opera Ensemble, and the Lethbridge Symphony. Sheila holds a Master of Music degree in Opera Performance from the University of British Columbia. Since graduation, Sheila has enjoyed being a member of the Vancouver Opera Chorus and performing in Vancouver Opera’s community events to promote Madama Butterfly and Macbeth. Her recent appearance as Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow with Burnaby Lyric Opera met with critical acclaim: “Sheila Christie exhibited an enviable dynamic range, beautifully lyrical and controlled” (Opera Canada). In 2005, Sheila was a semi-finalist in The Third Annual China (Ningbo) International Vocal Competition and received an Encouragement Award at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. In 2007, she was awarded the Vancouver Opera Guild’s grant for a promising BC singer and the Joe Boxer Memorial Fund Award from Vancouver Opera. Upcoming performances include soprano soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra and the role of Giovanna in Vancouver Opera’s production of Rigoletto. In addition to her performing career, Sheila is a singing instructor at the Richmond Academy of Dance and maintains a thriving teaching studio in her Vancouver home.
