OTHER FEES

A yearly fee of $10 will be charged, payable at the first lesson, to cover the cost of photocopies. Students will also be encouraged to purchase music, attend performances, participate in music festivals and Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations, and observe and participate in master classes or recitals. Fees may be associated with any of the proceeding activities. Students will never be billed for any item or service that they have not agreed to purchase.

Fees and lesson rates are guaranteed for one year (until September 2009). After one year, the instructor reserves the right to adjust fees based on the current market and changing circumstances.

PURCHASE AND PAYMENT

Unless alternate arrangements have been made with the instructor, all lessons must be purchased monthly. Fees must be paid in full at the first lesson of each month before lessons will be given. Checks should be made payable to Sheila Christie.

SCHEDULING

Students are expected to commit to a mutually agreable time slot. Once the student commits to a time slot, they are expected to come for weekly lessons. The instructor will consider students on a bi-weekly basis if requested but cannot guarantee these students a regular time slot.

Below is a list of days in 2008 that the instructor will not be available for lessons.  Should the student’s lesson fall on one of these days, they may choose to reschedule or to skip the lesson. If the student skips the lesson, the monthly fee will be adjusted accordingly.

Monday, September 1

Saturday, October 25

Monday, November 17

Friday, December 19 until Sunday, December 28

CANCELLATIONS

The instructor will do everything possible to schedule lessons without conflicts. When conflicts are unavoidable and the instructor must cancel, the lesson will be made up or credited to the next month.  Your time is important, and every effort will be made to make up missed lessons in a timely manner.

Students may cancel a lesson for any reason and a make-up lesson will be given in the same week if 24 hours’ notice is given to the instructor. Generally, if a lesson is canceled without 24 hours of notice before the scheduled lesson time, the student is not eligible for a make-up lesson. Emergencies will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis but will not include such reasons as:

-     I forgot

-     I’m too busy today

-     I accidentally scheduled something else

-     I’m sick – (You may, and should cancel your lesson if you are sick – but at least 24 hours notice is still   required.)

No refunds are given for any reason.

PREPARATION

Students are expected to come to their lessons prepared. This will mean different things for each student but will always include coming to lessons with all of your materials, including assigned music and a pencil. In the rare case that a student leaves their music behind or does not complete the preparation asked, the instructor reserves the right to end the lesson early. Should the student consistently come to lessons unprepared, the instructor will request practice schedules and follow-up mid-week via e-mail. Should a student choose to participate in a music festival, recital, or master class or take an RCM examination, the instructor will expect daily practice.
